Women = work or home?

14 Comments |1,467 Views

Note Of The Day: Feel very sleepy & tired today. And alot of work to do :(

The issue of whether women should go out to work or stay at home has been debated for a long, long time.If women go out to work, that means a second income for the family.Many things which are unfordable to a single-income family become more easily available to a family with a double income. The things can be a bigger car, a bigger house, better food and clothes or even an expensive overseas education.

With the high cost of living nowadays, it is quite impossible to make ends meet on a single income. In fact, in some advanced countries, not only do both husband and wife work but they have to moonlight just to maintain a respectable standard of living.

Apart from this, women nowadays are much better educated and it seems to be a waste not to utilize their talents. They may hold degrees in business management, accountancy, and law or computer science. It is a great waste of resources if such specialized knowledge is not put to use.

On the other hand, in families where both husband and wife work, the children suffer the consequences. Without proper care and attention, the children become problems. They neglect their studies, take drugs or become involved in other forms of juvenile delinquency.

If a woman stays at home, the most obvious advantage is that she can take care of the household better. She can also spend more time with the children and have a stabilizing effect on them. As a result, they are less likely to become problems.

Considering the pros and cons, I cannot see a woman, especially a highly educated one, being tied to the home. I cannot imagine a situation where a highly talented woman is not given the chance to express her creativity.

She would feel stifled and unfulfilled if her role in life is just to bear children, to look after them and to cook and wash for them. However if the husbands income is substantial, she may not need to work.

She can then find fulfillment for her creative instincts by being involved in other activities, such as painting & writing, which are not work and which do not take up too much of her time.

Alternatively, if a woman really must work, she could look for a part time job or a job with flexible working hours or, best of all, one in which she could do the work at home such as giving tuition or writing for magazines or journals and newspaper, or being an insurance agent.

What do you have in mind?

    [quote comment=”262″]The two that are stay at home moms are fairing horribly, scrambling to get an education with a minimum wage job, daycare and making rent and paying bills. Unless you’re rich, it is never to a woman’s advantage to stay home.

    Correct. More important is the moms better have good friendship and network so that it is many times easier to get things done. After my father pass away, my mom was in great pressure. Luckily she just knew a lot of friends, ask their helps & directions, and land on a parttime job and work at home play shares to earn more… me? I’m still in college studying hard and be my mom driver since she usually lost her way.

    Really, if possible women shouldn’t work because women is already under many more times pressure than men from the society itself (from a research not done in Malaysia), whether it is in work, family, to be looking good, or association.

    So when you work, you add in more pressure. More pressure makes anyone get ‘older’ faster. Couple with the ’short-cut’ now younger generations prefer to rid of the pressure….. it is quite suicidal.

    I mean just not go to work just to find a living. Just go work when you love to work and not from some social pressure that forces you to work (or not work).

    • ~TheAngel~: Eh, means I should not work when I get married one day? Totally “NO”. Well, so lucky I’m not your wife ;)
